Hoi An Oi Villa is a tourist villa with 7 different bedrooms: 4 double rooms, 1 family room, 1 twin room and 1 dorm room with 4 beds. The villa has a living room, a dining room, a kitchen and a swimming pool. All common rooms and space fully exploit river view and wind. A design requirement is that the villa must have the atmosphere and spirit of Hoi An, an ancient town and a famous tourist site of Quang Nam province, Vietnam but still inheriting the modern, contemporary styles.
This villa is developed from the structure of tube house of Hoi An ancient town including front house, middle house, and back house. The villa is constructed from 3 main blocks combining with complementary blocks. Main blocks consist of sleeping space, complementary blocks consist of bathroom and common living space. These blocks create a rhythmic street façade and harmony with the whole landscape. On the ground floor, architects divide the space into 2 areas: public area and residential area which are connected by complementary hall and stairs. In the public area, the dining room and kitchen share a common space and connect directly with the swimming pool which is arranged along the house. Residential space is a family room arranged at the end of the land completely separated with public area. At the same time the space is extended to the house back by large eaves. On the first and second floors, each floor has 3 rooms which are separated by a WC and common living space to increase privacy, especially preventing the sound problems. Eaves in the balcony of Hoi An Oi Villa become a very familiar image in traditional Vietnamese houses. They also help to minimize sunlight and rain falling on the balcony. The image of a small gate often found in Hoi An is used in this villa creating a familiar and close sense of Vietnam villages. The door system in “Upper and Lower” style – a feature of Hoi An traditional architecture is used for design of Hoi An Oi villa. Pieces of door can be fully closed to adjust ventilation and privacy for the house. Curved arches in interior space are developed from curved lines of lanterns to bring a harmonious and impressive look. Architects use a contrasting method between white – black of interior, modern and traditional beauty of constructional lines and architectural space but still balance the harmony within the villa. The yellow light of Hoi An lanterns makes the space become cozy and prominent bringing a reminiscent sense of full moon nights of the ancient town.
